A peaceful vigil in solidarity with people of Kashmir is being held on Thursday 24th October at 3 – 4 pm in front of the Town Hall.

On 5th August 2019 the Indian Government unilaterally revoked articles of the Indian constitution related to Jammu and Kashmir without consultation with the Indian parliament, or with Kashmiri politicians and communities.

This has resulted in the deprivation of political rights in Kashmir. There are also ongoing humanitarian concerns relating to human rights abuses in the region. The population of Jammu and Kashmir have been under curfew since 5th August and subject to severe restrictions.

The vigil will hear from a number of speakers from Luton’s communities expressing their concerns for and solidarity with the people of Kashmir, and advocating for a peaceful and legitimate resolution of the crisis supported by the intervention of the international community.
