People from all over our town came together recently as part of the Real People, Honest Talk initiative.

The event, which was attended by 150 people, focuses on creating public spaces for discussions focused on issues affecting our communities.

These included matters concerning anti-social behaviour, mental health and crime, as well as policing and women’s empowerment.

“We were pleased to see so many people attend the event, representing so many communities from our town,” said Kim Greig, the Near Neighbours Programme Co-ordinator. “It was a great evening on which we were able to share some

“A global issue that affects us all is climate change, and this was something that much of the discussion focused on.

She added: “At the end of the event, everyone was given a takeaway card entitled ‘Protecting our planet starts with you’. It was to encourage people to take simple steps to help preserve our environment.

“This included a pledge to recycle more, cut down on the use of plastics and conserve water.”

This was the third time that the Near Neighbours programme had run in Luton.
