Inspire FM recently launched its exciting ‘LUTON IS HOME’ photography competition – and has encouraged young people to get involved and be in with a chance of winning prizes and have their work showcased.

Young people aged 11 – 16 years can use a smartphone or camera to capture an image they feel represents Luton.

Competition partners include Unleashing Potential, Luton Foodbank, Challney High School for Girls, Chiltern Learning Trust and The Mall Luton.

Those pupils who create the winning entries will be invited to The Big Iftar Luton on 8 April 2022 at St George’s Square (from 6.30pm) where they will be presented with their prizes.

Challney High School for Girls teacher Jawairiya Tanveer is leading the competition as part of her work with charity Unleashing Potential.

She said: “This is a very exciting competition for our young people combining their passion for photography and their hometown.

“Luton is full of diversity, culture and character and we are looking forward to seeing the entries for this competition. We are especially pleased to see so many high schools are getting involved.”

Mohammed Tariq, Station Operations Manager at Inspire FM, said: “We are so fortunate to have so many brilliant local partners supporting the delivery of The Big Iftar, an event that brings together people of all faiths and backgrounds.

“As part of this we are pleased to work with our schools on this great initiative. In particular, our thanks go to The Mall Luton, who will be supplying the prizes for the winning entries.”

Roy Greening, General Manager for The Mall Luton, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting The Big Iftar Luton, and believe it’s a great opportunity to bring the community together with other people from different backgrounds and cultures to share a meal.

“We are particularly excited about the ‘Luton is Home’ schools photography competition, for which we are sponsoring prizes.   We can’t wait to see the creative ways in which the culture and diversity of the town are represented in this competition.”

The Big Iftar is led by Inspire FM, in partnership with Luton Council, Bedfordshire Police, Chaul End Children’s Centre and the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation.

It takes place every Ramadan, bringing together people to share food and good company. If you would like to join us and book a complimentary meal, do keep an eye on Inspire FM’s social media as the tickets will be released from Monday 28 March.
