Luton will be moved into tier 2 coronavirus restrictions from Wednesday 2 December when the national lockdown will end.

The new tier 2 restrictions mean:

  • People MUST NOT meet with anybody outside of their household, support bubble or essential carers in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place
  • People MUST NOT meet with people they don’t live with, in groups of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other spaces like parks
  • Businesses can operate in a COVID-Secure way if not shut by law

Hospitality venues selling food and drink are required to stop taking orders after 10pm except for delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through.

Places of worship will be allowed to open.

Wedding ceremonies and receptions can go ahead with 15 people whilst 30 people can attend funerals.

Lutonians must continue to follow tier 2 rules when travelling to a tier 1 area.

Travel to or overnight stays in tier 3 areas should be avoided other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities.

The number of cases in Luton per 100,000 rose to 301.3 for the week ending 22 November compared to 281.6 for the previous week.
