LUTON COMMUNITY RAISES OVER £150K FOR PAKISTAN FLOODS

Lutonians raised over £150,000 for Pakistan floods in less than 4 hours.

The fundraising dinner on Sunday (4th September) saw 300 local community members get together for one cause.

Rehana Faisal, one of the organisers from Luton Mosques, said: “It was an unforgettable night in Luton and we are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community who united to help those affected by the horrific floods in Pakistan.”

Inspire FM’s Station Operations Manager, Mohammed Tariq, said: “Despite the rising cost of living which many of us are facing, the Luton community came together to support the people in Pakistan. This is what Luton is about.”

The event was organised by Luton Mosques, Inspire FM, Connect4Causes, Discover Islam, Luton Lions and Venue Central.

Amongst the attendees were local businesses, MPs, councillors, the Mayor and faith groups.

According to Pakistan’s Disaster Management Authority, the floods have led to 1,200 deaths, 1 million homes damaged and 33 million people affected.

It is estimated that a third of Pakistan is underwater.
