LUTON SIXTH FORM COLLEGE WINS GRANT TO INCREASE CAPACITY

Luton Sixth Form College has been awarded £165,000 from the Post-16 Capacity Fund to create additional learning spaces for students.

The oldest and one of the largest sixth form colleges in the country has been oversubscribed for a number of years now and this funding will help accommodate some of this growth.

The funding will be invested into an additional classroom, supervised study space, careers hub and well-being area.

College Principal & CEO, Altaf Hussain said: “Luton Sixth Form College is the jewel in the educational crown of Luton and I am delighted that our bid has been approved.

“We are already one of the best looking and best equipped sixth form college out there and this money will provide even more high-quality additional space to support our young professionals of today and tomorrow.”

Altaf added: “It will boost their independent learning, subject knowledge as well as their emotional and mental health.

“Our highly aspirational students and wonderful people of Luton will directly benefit from this important additional investment and that’s what it’s all about.”

Donna Donlon, Director of Finance & Operations at the College facilitated the bidding process and said: “This is fantastic news for the College and wider community.

“This funding not only allows us to add additional learning spaces for students but gives opportunities for our young people.

“Our careers hub gives much-needed support with university and job applications which helps families and feeds back into the town.”

The new facilities will be ready for students by the end of 2021.

The post-16 capacity fund was promised in the 2020 spending review by Chancellor Rishi Sunak. 39 colleges and sixth forms will share £83 million to build facilities to accommodate the 260,000 additional 16 to 19-year-olds anticipated to be in education in the coming years.
